The two largest industries in Orlando are leisure and hospitality and trade, transportation and utilities.

Orlando Jobs in Leisure and Hospitality

The leisure and hospitality industry is the single largest industry in the Orlando area, with more than 268,000 jobs as of March 2018. Many entry-level roles in this industry often lead to more advanced roles or managerial roles, which may have more education or experience requirements. Two of the three largest employers in the Orlando area fall into this industry: Walt Disney Co. employs over 73,000 employees in the Central Florida area, and Universal Orlando Resorts has approximately 23,000 employees.

Orlando Jobs in Trade, Transportation and Utilities

The next-largest industry in Orlando is the trade, transportation, and utility industry. As of March 2018, there were more than 235,000 jobs that fell into this category. This industry includes jobs from warehouse employees to pilots and bus drivers. The Orlando Utilities Commission is one such company with many of these positions consistently available. Mears Transportation is currently one of the top companies to work for in Orlando and employs over 2,000 people. With such a wide variety of job types, there are equally diverse job requirements for education and experience.

Healthcare and retail are also major employers in the city, with Adventist Health System and Publix Super Markets being among the top employers in these sectors.

Orlando leads the state in job growth in both the leisure and hospitality industry and the trade, transportation and utilities industry over the past year. There were over 12,000 new jobs in leisure and hospitality and over 4,500 new Orlando jobs within the trade, transportation and utility sector. As of March, Orlando had over 35,000 jobs available, which puts the city second for opportunities among major cities in Florida.
